Tim Donahue is Executive Chairman of Sprint Nextel. He previously served as president and chief executive officer of Nextel Communications Inc. He began his career with Nextel in January 1996 as president and chief operating officer.
Nextel experienced record setting financial results under Mr. Donahue's impressive leadership, with nine straight quarters of positive net income. Since becoming president and CEO of Nextel, he helped build Nextel into a Fortune 200 company; increasing the subscriber base to 16.2 million in 2004 and significantly reducing debt.
Institutional Investor Magazine recently honored Mr. Donahue as the best CEO in the telecom services/wireless sector based on ratings by investors and brokerage firm analysts. Additionally, Forbes Magazine recently rated Mr. Donahue as one of America's leading CEOs with an approval rating of 87 percent, second only to Apple's Steve Jobs.
Mr. Donahue's mantra of "Be first, Be better, Be different" has helped position Nextel as an award-winning industry leader. In 2004, Nextel, ranked first in the Telecommunications category by both BusinessWeek 50 and Forbes' Best Big Companies lists.
Before joining Nextel, Mr. Donahue served as northeast regional president for AT&T Wireless Services operations from 1991 to 1996. Prior to that, he served as president for McCaw Cellular's paging division in 1986 and was named McCaw's president for the U.S. central region in 1989.
Mr. Donahue is a graduate of John Carroll University with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature. He serves on the Board of Kodak and John Carroll University.
